The Polish volleyball team will take on the reigning champions Serbia, plus Belgium, Ukraine, Greece and Portugal in the group stage of the European Championships 2021. The draw took place on Thursday in Helsinki.
The tournament will be held in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland and Poland. The Poles will play their games in Krakow on September 2-8, 2021. In the last championships, the team coached by Vital Heynen took third place.
The tournament will be held in four countries and involve 24 teams, competing initially in four groups, followed by the knockout rounds.
Poland will host the most games during the tournament – 25, including 15 in the group phase, four in the last 16, two in the quarter finals, both of the semi-finals, the third-fourth playoff and the grand final.
The Polish men’s volleyball team will participate in the European championships for the 27th time. Their record includes three bronze medals (1967, 2011, 2019), five silver medals (1975,1977,1979,1981,1983), and one gold, won in 2009.
Onward to the European Championships, Poland will first take part in the Nations League and then travel to Tokyo to compete for an Olympic medal.
