A new housing development promising residents ‘beautiful houses on a mini-estate for adults only’ has become an overnight sensation.

Designed by eco-friendly Kraków-based Ekotektura, the cluster of small, 55-m2 homes to be built in Silesia in south-west Poland will be the first of its kind in the country to offer an estate without children or pets.

The company’s Facebook page, which posted the concept design for the “beautiful houses on a mini-estate”, has now been flooded with people keen to rent a unit when they become available.Ekotektura

Piotr Pyrtek, president of Ekotektura, told local media: “In fact, the investor came up with the idea to create a housing estate for adults and they will not be bought but for rent.

“This means that the investor, as the owner of the estate, can choose who will live there.  I don’t think it’s against the law.

“However, the investment is still in the design and concept phase, so the investor does not want to reveal when and where exactly the estate will be built. We hope that the construction works will start this year.”

Piotr Pyrtek, president of Ekotektura, said: “I did not expect the idea to cause such a stir on the internet but many of the comments are positive. There are many people who would choose to live in an adult-only estate. If such restaurants already exist, why not housing estates? The step is brave but it has its supporters.”Ekotektura

One commentator said: “is it true that admission is prohibited for children? Finally!!! If true congratulations on the idea. Finally, someone thought of singles who prefer not to have a pesky neighbourhood.”

Another wrote: “Super solution!!! Really! Not everyone has to have children to be happy.”

And yet another posted: Finally a place perfect for me and my husband.”

Some however have been less positive with one suggesting that they may try to keep children out of the area with low-voltage wire fencing and others being outraged that a social group, parents and children, could be excluded in such a way.

The simple monochrome buildings will come with a communal green space, there will be no fences to create barriers or arguments between neighbours and each home will have a parking space.Ekotektura

The properties are expected to be completed by the end of August but the company is remaining tight-lipped about the exact location due to ‘excessive media interest’.

There has been no solution proposed about what would happen to a resident who fell pregnant while living in one of the properties but it would be illegal to break a rental agreement because of a pregnancy.

The award-winning firm added it isn’t against family housing and have realised multiple projects which specifically target families as well as creating designs for libraries, museums and hotels.
