Mr Rau stated, during a debate between Foreign Ministers at the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS Small Group, held on Tuesday, that the international community must strengthen its efforts to eliminate terrorist groups, in particular Daesh.

The Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS Small Group was established in September 2014 at the initiative of the USA. Currently 78 countries and five international organisations (including NATO and the EU) are active members. The Small Group brings together 28 countries, the most involved militarily and non-militarily in the fight against Daesh. Poland joined the Small Group in April 2016.

Minister Rau added that Poland would maintain its involvement in the coalition and, as a NATO member, will also continue its participation in training and advisory missions in Iraq.

The discussion concerned challenges resulting from the unstable situation in Syria and the increased activity of Daesh and other terrorist groups in the Sahel and East African countries. The security situation as well as humanitarian and development needs in Iraq were also discussed.
