COVID-19: Employers to participate in vaccination process: report

As reported by the “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” (DGP) daily, the government is considering providing COVID-19 vaccinations at workplaces. The draft amendment that includes the changes has reportedly been submitted to the Sejm, the lower house of Polish parliament, this week.

The daily reported that the government wants to significantly speed up the COVID-19 vaccination process and is considering introducing it in large workplaces. “Vaccines and guidelines will be provided on the agreed date, and the entire organisation [procedure] will be on the employer’s side,” the daily wrote, adding that the employer “will have to provide qualified and vaccinated staff or conclude an appropriate agreement with a clinic.”

According to the daily, the change is a part of the government’s draft amendment to the act on pharmaceutical law, which will also allow vaccination to be carried out in pharmacies. A report obtained by “DGP” indicates that it may be debated by the Sejm later this week.

“The change is expected to apply not only to vaccines against COVID-19, but also to others, such as those against the flu,” the daily pointed out.

“DGP” also reported that work is underway to allow occupations other than doctors to perform vaccinations. As it explains, these will include pharmacists, who have already begun training in making intramuscular injections. “Approximately 5,500 have signed up for the courses. About a thousand have already completed the training, the rest should complete it within two weeks,” the daily wrote.

The report was confirmed by the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the government plenipotentiary for the National Vaccination Programme, Michał Dworczyk. “If we introduce such solutions permanently, it will be a big change for many people and the medical community. However, they [such solutions] already exist in the world and have a positive impact on the number of vaccinations, for example against influenza,” the Minister emphasised.

The daily also pointed out that pharmacies are not the only places where new vaccination points are to appear. “So-called large vaccination points, organised by local governments are to be introduced. They could be created, for example, in schools,” GDP reported.
