Every dose of COVID-19 vaccine helps to overcome pandemic: Polish PM

Every administered dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is bringing Poland closer to lifting the newly implemented restrictions, said the Polish Prime Minister on Saturday.

“The situation is difficult. The Polish state has been using all the means at its disposal to save the health and lives of the Polish people,” said Mateusz Morawiecki on Saturday, when the new restrictions came into force.

In an effort to stop the rapidly growing new cases of coronavirus infections, Poland has introduced new lockdown measures which will be in force until April 9. Over the last 24 hours the total number of infections reached 31,757 and the number of deaths was 448.

“A year ago, discipline and solidarity were our only weapons. Today, there is also science,” Morawiecki said.

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of vaccination and appealed to Poles not to waste this great chance.

The new restrictions include closures of barber services, hairdressing and beauty salons as well as all shopping centres, with the exception of food markets, pharmacies, newsagents and bookshops.

Religious services are allowed with one person per 20 sqm of space available in a given place of worship.

All hotels remain closed, however providing accommodation to workers, medical personnel, professional drivers, and soldiers is permitted.

Entertainment and leisure venues, such as cinemas, theatres, art galleries, museums, fitness clubs, ski slopes, swimming pools, saunas, and sun tanning salons are also closed.
