Chance for another Volkswagen’s factory in Poland: report

The daily wrote that Volkswagen “has decided to become the European Tesla”, known for production of cars with electric engines.

“PB” wrote that Herbert Diess, the CEO of Volkswagen (VW), announced that in 2030 the share of electric cars in sales in Europe will reach 60 percent, so the company will need six major factories producing batteries with a total capacity of 240 GWh.

Two factories are already under construction: in Sweden in cooperation with Northvolt (it will be ready in 2023) and in Salzgitter, Germany (it will start operation by 2025). They were to have a capacity of 14 and 16 GWh, but each will generate 40 GWh. The third plant will be built in Western Europe: Spain, France or Portugal by 2025. The fourth will be in Central-Eastern Europe: in the Czech Republic, Poland or Slovakia by 2027 and a further two more will be built by 2030, the newspaper reported.

“We are in talks with partners, governments and the European Commission on the choice of location,” Thomas Schmall, VW’s technology board member, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

“Puls Biznesu” also recalled that Volkswagen’s partners are LG Energy Solutions (formerly LG Chem), which has the largest battery factory in Europe and Northvolt, which will move from rented space to its own plant in Gdańsk, northern Poland.
