Caritas Poland will support 100 families in Iraqi Kurdistan

As part of the Family to Family programme, Caritas Poland will support one hundred families in Iraqi Kurdistan this year. Pope Francis plans to visit the local Christians during his pilgrimage to Iraq starting March 5.

“The situation in the country is still unstable. Political conflicts continue and the activities of local armed groups are disturbing security,” said Nabil Nissan, the director of the Iraqi Caritas.

“One of the biggest challenges the half-million-strong Christian minority is facing in a 38-million Muslim Iraq is discrimination as its members are being treated as second-class citizens.” Added Mr Nissan.

The Tesqopa city area in the north of Iraq is one of two locations where at the beginning of this year Caritas Poland has launched the Family-to-Family programme, originally initiated in Syria in 2016. Thanks to the programme, families will receive regular financial support to pay for their rent, food and medicine.

The programme can be supported via the website by making a donation to the account 77 1160 2202 0000 0000 3436 4384 (title of payment: “Rodzina Rodzinie”).
