Pandemic helped Poland gain market shares abroad: MFA Dep Head

After taking part in the 590 Congress panel dedicated to economic opportunities for Poland on emerging markets, Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński, told Polish Radio 24 that all sectors of the Polish economy have made use of the unexpected opportunities that have accompanied the powerful challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The indicators for Polish exports show that we have strongly accelerated in this regard,” the Deputy Foreign Minister stated.

On Thursday, February 25th, politicians, experts and entrepreneurs gathered to discuss Polish economic expansion on the Chinese, Indian and African markets. The 590 Forum, devoted to economic relations with emerging markets, is a new initiative of the annual 590 Congress organisers. Thursday’s 590 Forum also constitutes the beginning of a series of events covering economic issues.

Deputy Foreign Minister Jabłonski made the case for why Poland stands to benefit by entering new markets with the help of new Polish cutting edge solutions that the country’s companies did not have in their tool-box in past years.

He pointed out, talking about the epidemic as an opportunity was initially met with criticism. When Minister Emilewicz, who was then in charge of the Ministry of Development, said a dozen or so months ago that the pandemic could also be an opportunity for the Polish economy, she was heavily criticised for this,” he stressed.

“Meanwhile, economic indicators show that Polish exports for 2020 have greatly accelerated. We have a huge trade surplus of EUR 12 bn. You can see that Polish entrepreneurs have coped with the pandemic very well. Of course, state institutions support everyone who tries to enter new markets, especially the more difficult ones, which are connected with greater challenges,” deputy minister explained.
