Poland, other EU-member states’ leaders write to Michel over vaccine deliveries

The prime ministers of Poland, Spain, Denmark and Belgium and the president of Lithuania wrote a letter to the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, in which they appealed for the supply of vaccines to be increased and to speed up work on expanding production capacity in the EU.

The Polish Permanent Representation to the EU announced on Twitter that the letter had been sent to Mr Michel ahead of the EU video summit on the COVID-19 pandemic scheduled for this week.

“Leaders are calling for an increase in vaccine supply and to come up with an idea to accelerate work to increase production capacity in the EU,” the representative wrote in a tweet.

It also included a fragment of the letter.

“The extraordinary EU summit this week is spot on. Access to a sufficient number of vaccines in Europe remains an unresolved challenge. Despite the unprecedented rapid development of new, high-quality vaccines, production difficulties continue and are leading to serious delays”, the letter stated.

“Taking this into account, new COVID mutations may threaten our path to full recovery and normal life”, states the letter signed by Mateusz Morawiecki, Pedro Sanchez, Mette Frederiksen, Alexander De Croo and Gitanas Nauseda.
