Food prices in Poland among the lowest in EU: stats agency

The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages in Poland are among the lowest in the EU, accounting for 69 percent of the EU average, according to the bloc’s statistics agency.

Such products are only cheaper in Romania, Eurostat said.

The study showed that the prices of meat products in Poland represented 63 percent of the EU average, bread — 68 percent, dairy products — 71percent, alcohol — 86 percent, and cigarettes — 60 percent.

The most expensive EU countries in terms of food prices were Denmark, Austria and Luxembourg.

Bread was paid most for by the inhabitants of Denmark, Austria, Finland and Luxembourg.

Alcohol was most expensive in Sweden, Finland and Ireland, whereas cigarettes in the UK, France and Ireland.

Austria, Luxembourg and France paid the most for meat, while Cyprus, Greece and Luxembourg paid the most for cheese, milk and eggs.
