Poland’s PKO BP bank turns 100

Poland’s PKO BP, the largest bank in Central and Eastern Europe, is celebrating 100 years in existence.

At a birthday bash on Thursday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki praised the state-owned bank for being an important market player and for a century of efforts in helping build savings in the nation.

“One of the key challenges of economic policy is savings, and PKO BP has been one of the pillars in building savings,” Morawiecki said during the ceremony in Warsaw.

PKO BP has 10 million clients and is the largest bank in both Poland and throughout the region, public broadcaster Polish Radio reported.

The bank was established on February 7, 1919, less than three months after Poland recovered its sovereignty in the aftermath of World War I.
