Eight detained in Polish anti-corruption probe

Anti-corruption investigators on Monday detained eight people suspected of obtaining millions by submitting false VAT invoices to a state agency that supports agriculture in Poland, a news agency reported.

The group is suspected of fraudulently obtaining PLN 17 million (around EUR 4m, USD 4.5m) from Poland’s Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture between 2012 and 2014, when the previous government was in power.

The group is believed to have planned to obtain a further PLN 5.5m, state news agency PAP reported.

The eight detained by Poland’s Central Anticorruption Bureau are part of or have links to an agricultural producers’ group, according to PAP.
