Michał Sołowow topped this year’s list of the 100 richest Poles, followed by Zygmunt Solorz and family Kulczyk. The list compiled by the weekly magazine Wprost, reports that the richest 100 poles in 2017 have a total of 134 billion zlotys (32.7 billion euros).
The biggest fall in this year’s list was recorded by Leszek Czarnecki, who fell 15 places to 22nd position. Acording to the ranking, his assets were estimated at PLN 1.5 billion (EUR 346 million), while last year he took fifth place with PLN 3.5 billion (EUR 807 million).
Poland’s richest man, Michał Sołowow, once considered a ‘shark’ of the Polish stock exchange, is currently an investor in biotechnology, among other fields, and has assets estimated at PLN 10.8 billion (EUR 2.49 billion). He is followed by businessman Zygmunt Solorz with PLN 9.1 billion (EUR 2.1 billion) and Sebastian and Dominika Kulczyk, each with PLN 7.1 billion (EUR 1.63 billion).
The captain of Poland’s national football team, Robert Lewandowski, also made the list, having debuted two years ago among the country’s youngest millionaires. With estimated assets of PLN 353 million (EUR 81.37 million), he came in 94th place.
There were 16 debuts on this year’s list. The wealthiest debutant was Zbigniew Woźniak (owner of one of Europe’s largest egg producers), who took 12th place with PLN 2.5 billion (EUR 576 million).
The richest 100 people in Poland have combined assets of PLN 142 billion (EUR 32.7 billion), PLN 5 billion (EUR 1.15 billion) more than a year ago, but “that’s still only one third of what Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, has,” the weekly noted.
