Polish president stresses importance of business ties with US

President Andrzej Duda on Thursday told a US-Poland Business Summit in Warsaw that economic cooperation was an important aspect of Poland’s strategic alliance with America.

The meeting was being attended by government officials from both countries, including US Assistant Secretary of Commerce Erin Walsh.

“Your presence here in fact confirms that the strategic alliance between Poland and the United States – besides the security aspect, which is of course key – also has another, equally important pillar: economic cooperation,” Duda told participants.

He thanked those at the meeting for gathering to brainstorm ways of further strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

The US-Poland Business Summit is being held for the third time.

The focus of the meeting was discussion about what the organisers have called “the big picture of commercial and investment connection between the two countries.”

Trade between Poland and the United States increased by about 20 percent last year, a US official has said.

The figure marked the best result “in the history of mutual diplomatic relations,” John Lowell Armstrong, economic counselor at the US embassy in Warsaw, said last week.

Armstrong added that, according to the American Chamber of Commerce, US companies have invested about USD 42 billion in Poland since 1990.
