Almost half of Polish businesses say the country’s buoyant economy has not translated into firms paying up faster for goods and services, according to a report.

Delays in payments are a long-standing source of complaint by Polish businesses.

“Although estimated GDP growth in the final quarter of 2017 exceeded 5% year on year, and economic growth in the whole of last year reached 4.6% and was the highest in six years, according to 47.2% of … micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises this did not have a positive impact on payments between companies,” said BIG InfoMonitor, a firm that collects data about debt.

Government officials have recently floated proposals on how to cut delays in payments.

“Over 90% of entrepreneurs surveyed tell us that this problem really affects them,” Poland’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz told reporters on Friday.
