Five Polish regions among poorest in EU: Eurostat

Five Polish regions are among the 20 poorest in the European Union, the Money.pl website has reported, citing Eurostat figures for 2016.

The ranking included the eastern Lubelskie province, where GDP per capita was 47 percent of the EU average, the southeastern Podkarpacie province (48 percent), the northeastern Podlasie (48 percent) and Warmińsko-Mazurskie provinces (49 percent).

The central Wielkopolskie province saw the highest growth between 2011 and 2016, with GDP per capita rising from 68 to 75 percent of the EU average, followed by the Mazovian province, which saw a hike from 103 to 109 percent.
