Polish soprano Kurzak to sing at Opéra Bastille in Paris

Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak is billed to sing the part of Desdemona in a new production of Verdi’s “Otello” that is due to premiere at the Opéra Bastille in Paris on Thursday.

French tenor Roberto Alagna will sing the title part.

Further performances are on March 10, 13, 16, 20, 23, 26 and 29.

On June 15, Kurzak and Alagna, who are a married couple in private life, are billed to perform together in an open-air production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in Warsaw.

Earlier this year, they both appeared in Bizet’s Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where Kurzak sang the part of Micaëla and Alagna was cast as San Jose.

Kurzak first performed at the Met in 2004 when she appeared as Olympia in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann.
