Half of Poles to spend New Year’s Eve at home: poll

Fifty percent of Poles intend to stay home for New Year’s Eve, while one in four will celebrate at a house party with friends, a survey has shown.

Around 2 percent will attend open-air festivities nationwide, while 6 percent will ring in the new year partying abroad, a poll by BIG InfoMonitor has found.

The average Pole will spend PLN 314 (EUR 73.31, USD 83.54) on the celebration. Most of the money will go toward food (38 percent) and alcohol purchases (16 percent).

Three percent of respondents said they would borrow money to end the year with a bang, while 6 percent were considering a loan.
